At the Soimos fort

I was on a trip this week-end at the Soimos fort in Lipova/ Arad county with some of my friends in the week-end, and took some pictures with my modest little camera :D It might not be Fuji, or Canon, but the little sucker does some good pics – said its modest owner :P

Back to the fort. It was built in 1278, as a defense against the Tatar invasion, and was rebuilt by leader Iancu of Hunedoara (1440 – 1446) at the end of the first half of the 14th century. Later on it is fortified and changed into the style of the Renaissance, when the fort becomes the residence of Transylvania’s prince(1541) . After 1788 it becomes a ruin, being abandonned by the Austrian garnison.
